WHAT MY MOM TAUGHT ME ABOUT PATIENCE.

The Obsession

Edition - 023

Welcome to The Obsession, glad you're here.

Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible moms out there. It's amazing to think that the entire population of the earth exists because of mothers. There's so much we can learn from the sacrifices they make.

Being a mom is often a thankless job, with only one day a year dedicated to celebrating them.

Since I'm not a mom or a parent, I felt unqualified to speak on this topic. So I turned to my own mom for insight. I asked her, "What is the most rewarding part of being a mom that we can all learn from?"

She shared that the best part of being a mom was watching her kids try new things as they grew up, gain confidence along the way, and share their lives with her. I'm honored to have been one of those kids.

What stands out is that the reward she described is all about the kids growing up and becoming who they're meant to be. That's a long wait. Often not until they're in their 20s. And that taught me something: the things in life that require time, patience, and years of thankless effort, while giving it your all, typically yield the greatest rewards.

My mom is one of the greatest people I know. She's an incredible listener, beyond patient, and has a steadfast faith. I aspire to embody those qualities.

So, thank you Mom!

THE WEEKLY 3

1) One Question I Asked Myself

What am I working toward right now that might take years to pay off?

2) One Idea That Shifted Me

The greatest rewards come from the things that require the most patience. Not days or weeks. Years.

3)One Challenge to Take Into Your Week

Tell your mom (or someone who played that role for you) one specific thing they did that shaped who you are. Don't wait for a holiday. Just say it.
